Medite Ultralite MDF maintains the excellent surface smoothness and stability of normal MDF. Medite Ultralite can be painted to achieve high quality surface finishes and provide a uniform substrate for overlaying. Major benefits include easier handling, reduced tool wear and can be selectively used in applications where the lighter weight features are appreciated. Developed at Medite’s world class MDF facility in Clonmel, Medite Ultralite broadens the range of the Medite family of high performance MDF products.
Applications: The range of product applications for Medite Ultralite MDF includes, for example, exhibition stands, television and film studio sets, shopfitting components, caravan and mobile home components, wrapped moulding and picture frames, aircraft and shipbuilding industries, theatre stage sets, museum gallery walls, lightweight event furniture and ceilings.
Performance: Medite Ultralite is suitable for use in internal dry conditions as defined in EN622 parts 1 and 5 and conforms to EN13986. Boards of this type are suitable for use in Hazard Class 1 of EN 335-3.
Appearance: Medite Ultralite retains the light tan colour of the wood fibre from which it is manufactured.
Conditioning: The moisture content of Medite Ultralite is in the range of 7% +/- 2% at the time of manufacture. Changes in dimensions of wood and wood-based sheet materials occur due to changes in relative humidity. For this reason, Medite Ultralite panels should be conditioned to the final environment for two to three days before cutting and fixing.
Machining/finishing: Cut or profiled edges of Medite Ultralite should first be sanded with 150-240 grit, prior to painting. The recommended coating system for the edges is to seal, prime and topcoat with de-nibbing in-between coats to produce a smooth finish. The desired finish on the face can be achieved by application of a base-coat and top-coat. If water-based coatings are used, it is important that forced drying or quick-drying systems be applied in order to maintain the surface quality.
Medite Ultralite can be used for lightweight event furniture.
Fire Rating: Medite Ultralite is expected to achieve a fire class rating of Euro Class D within the European classifications.
Authority: Medite Ultralite is manufactured under an NSAI registered I.S. EN ISO 9001:2008 quality management system.
